Why do tourists click shitty pics of India and post them online?
I have frequently seen non-Indian tourists (dunno about Indian) click and post pics of poor, under-developed places in the Indian cities they visit and tag them as "pic of so and so city". I never see beautiful roads and pics of developed places from such places. There are many such places in all cities in India (I can talk confidently of Delhi since I live there and always see pics of the poorer parts of Delhi on the internet from tourists while it has many beautiful places!)

More Indians at least should click better pictures and shoot videos of roads, buildings and other places in India and post them online so that a biased and limited focus on only the poorer parts of India is displaced.
What do you think?

Well at first I wondered if lots of this had to do with people who go on tours that take them only to certain places. But surely those tours take people to at least some famous and nice areas...?

Or maybe it has to do with the element of voyeurism? Maybe this people who do this haven't seen such sights in their lives and are "amased" by it? I know it's stupid excuses but really it's all I can think of. You are right about lots of bad pics of India online, but really I have seen other, nicer ones.

Why wouldn't slums be interesting? People always look at their own country or city in a different way than at other. But why would a house made of some wood, plastic or cardboard be less interesting, less amazing, less creative or less beautiful than a pile of stone, concrete or iron of 400m high?
Also, it shows respect when tourists do want to see a country, and not only stick to some famous old buildings.
And since Slumdog Millionnaire, I'm sure the interest for slums went up.

If there are such pics, this means that it's reality. Why to hide it and only show beautiful and developed places? Under developed and poor areas might be exotic for western tourists when they don't have places like that in their own countries. What is the point of showing pics of roads and new buildings, they are the same everywhere.

I get the point of the pair of you, esp Vomitous, but I think you are missing the point of the original poster. It *is* a bit frustrating that this in many instances are all many foreigners know about India. How many people know the history of Red Fort in Agra? Of those same people, how many can carry on a five-minutes long conversation about the slums of Calcutta?

Balance I think is what he is after...

I agree with this. It hapened to me when I first came to India. However, I never take pics of slums or beggars: I just think what if I'm in their place???
